10 Rules to Make Your Photographs Look More Professional
1) Rule of thirds – Imagine a tic-tac-toe board over the image. Put objects of interest on or near the lines and intersections.
It would be a natural tendency to take this photo with the lighthouse centered in the frame. By moving it to the side,
the photo becomes much more interesting.

2) Fill the frame – You are taking a picture of a subject. So why include a bunch of open
space that takes away from the subject.
When taking a snapshot, most people instinctually use a very wide angle to
make sure everything gets into frame. Getting up close and personal really
focuses on the subject. In this shot, the arm and part of the flames are
cropped out…and that’s OK!

3) Blurry Background – This can be achieved by standing back and zooming in on the subject while
making sure the background is very far away. It can also be done by using a lens with a low f number.
